Phillies announce another unfortunate injury to pitching staff image

The Philadelphia Phillies have seen their bullpen develop over the course of the 2025 season. While Jose Alvarado isn't going to be a factor in the postseason, the acquisitions of Jhoan Duran and David Robertson have been huge moves for the Phillies.

They also have acquired a few different bullpen options this season, like Lou Trivino, Tim Mayza, Daniel Robert, and most recently, Walker Buehler, who could factor into the bullpen come October.

But, ahead of the second game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies announced some unfortunate news for one of their relievers.

Phillies Reliever Hits 15-Day Injured List

The Phillies announced that they have placed right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to September 2nd. Taking his place in the bullpen is Max Lazar, who's pitched some quality innings for the Phillies this season.

This season, Robert has a 4.15 ERA in 15 games with 15 strikeouts, a 1.62 WHIP, 10 walks, and 11 hits allowed in 13 innings pitched. He most recently pitched a scoreless two-thirds of an inning against the Brewers in the Phillies' 10-8 thrilling win Monday night.

The 31-year-old was acquired from the Texas Rangers earlier in the year and was a contributor in the bullpen for Philadelphia at various points this season.

Lazar, who is filling the 28-man roster spot of Robert in this roster move, has pitched in 28 games for the Phillies this season. He has a 4.78 ERA in those games, as he allowed 31 hits and 17 earned runs across 32 innings of work with the Phillies this season.

He also has 21 strikeouts on the year with nine walks and five home runs allowed. His most recent outing in the Majors was a three-run outing against the Washington Nationals in an 11-9 win in the middle of August.

Before that outing, he had a 0.00 ERA across six innings that month. At the end of July, Lazar allowed six earned runs in a blowout loss to the Chicago White Sox, his worst appearance of the year.

Before that blowup outing, he had a 2.96 ERA in 24.1 innings of work. If he can find more consistency down the stretch for the Phillies, he could find himself as part of the Phillies' postseason bullpen.

For now, Lazar is taking over Robert's spot on the 28-man roster, as the Phillies announced that Robert was unfortunately hitting the injured list after a brief three-game stint with the team since getting called up in late August.
