The Philadelphia Phillies have found some success throughout the 2025 campaign, but several of their top players have faced multiple struggles.
That includes Aaron Nola, who many considered to be one of the top arms in Major League Baseball just a few months ago.
When Nola is at his best, there's a strong argument to be made that he's among the elite of the elite in the league. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case throughout the year, and some are starting to question whether the Phillies can continue to deal with it.
Phillies need to make tough decision
With the postseason approaching, Philadelphia will have some tough decisions to make.
Factor in Zack Wheeler's injury, and it further complicates things, considering they don't have a competent right-handed starter to throw when it matters most.
However, to make matters even worse, some believe the Phillies could keep Nola out of the rotation and replace him with a name that won't please many Phillies fans.
When discussing the saga, Anthony Stitt of Forbes noted that the Phillies could replace Nola with Taijuan Walker.
“Is Nola in the rotation when/if the Phils make the postseason?
“Well, after his latest dud — Wednesday’s game against the Brewers when he gave up six runs in five innings, including five in the first — maybe the Phils should go to anybody other than Nola to start a playoff game, maybe even… get ready for an anxiety spike… Taijuan Walker,” he wrote.

After everything Walker has been through during his time with the Phillies, it'd be a bit surprising to see him get a playoff start.
However, if Nola continues to struggle the way he has, it might be what the Phillies have to do.
Ultimately, Rob Thomson has to put the best players out on the field every day. If he believes that Walker is better than Nola, that's who should be starting.
