After coming up just short in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, Team USA is gearing up to make another run at winning it at all.
Led by manager Mark DeRosa, an already stacked team got significantly stronger on Tuesday with the announcement of four new additions to the roster.
Infielders Bryce Turang and Gunnar Henderson, catcher Will Smith and designated hitter have already reportedly committed to joining Team USA for the 2026 WBC. Schwarber and Smith each participated in the 2023 WBC, while Henderson and Turang will be making their debuts in the event.
Schwarber slugged two home runs in five games in the 2023 event, and his participation will be an early season tune-up for his expected production in the 2026 MLB season.
Smith has not been in live action since his excellent 11th inning of the 2025 World Series, and if he brings that same level of clutch to Team USA, he'll be an excellent late-inning pinch hit option off the bench.
Turang and Henderson both possess excellent offensive and defensive skills. With Bobby Witt Jr. Already on the roster, one of Turang or Henderson may not see a heavy amount of playing time, but they'll be expected to produce when they do see the field.
