Puerto Rico has been a finalist in the World Baseball Classic in back-to-back editions of the international tournament. It has yet to come away with the title.

Puerto Rico has reached the second round of the World Baseball Classic in each of the four events, and in 2013, advanced to the championship matchup for the first time. However, the Dominican Republic won the game 3-0 to claim its first title. The next time, it was the United States that ended Puerto Rico's title hopes, winning 8-0.

Back in the tournament again in 2023, Puerto Rico once again finds itself in prime position to try and win a title. The roster is loaded with some of the best players in baseball, led by a pair of Mets in shortstop Francisco Lindor and closer Edwin Díaz.

The road to a title will start in a challenging Pool D field that features loaded rosters like the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Israel, making it one of the most difficult paths to the second round.

Puerto Rico World Baseball Classic 2023 roster

Puerto Rico once again enters the World Baseball Classic with one of the best rosters in the tournament. The infield features the electrifying duo of Javier Báez and Lindor. The outfield features a pair of clutch postseason performers in Eddie Rosario and Enrique Hernández.

The bullpen has a legitimate case as the deepest unit in the tournament. Brothers Alexis Díaz and Edwin Díaz were relief aces for the Reds and Mets, respectively, and Jorge López and Emilio Pagán are key relievers for the Twins. In the rotation, José Berríos and Marcus Stroman also help give the Puerto Rican squad a formidable top-two hurlers.
