Any Dodgers vs. Giants game holds significance, but Friday night's showdown in Los Angeles will be firmly in the national spotlight after scheduled starter and L.A. legend Clayton Kershaw announced he will retire at the end of this season.

With postseason pitching plans always fluid, that means Friday is the last time fans will be guaranteed to see the three-time Cy Young winner on the mound at Dodger Stadium.

It won't be merely a sentimental occasion, though. Kershaw (10-2, 3.53 ERA) and the Dodgers are trying to fend off the Padres as they pursues a fourth consecutive NL West title — and 12th in the past 13 years. Not to mention, there's still an outside shot that the Dodgers could capture a first-round bye for the postseason.

On the flipside, the Giants — sellers at the trade deadline — are still very much alive in the NL Wild Card race. But every game is crucial for San Francisco, which has dropped back-to-back series at an inopportune time. The Giants will need more from star third baseman Rafael Devers, who has struggled in September after a white-hot August.

The Sporting News has everything that you need to know about watching Kershaw and the Dodgers vs. Giants tonight with Apple TV+.
