The Athletics are in last place in the American League West and have had trouble filling the minor league stadium that is their temporary home in Sacramento.
The move to Las Vegas is coming soon, which should mean a rejuvenated fan base.
Still, despite the Athletics being 16-games below .500 as of June 19, there is some promise.
On Thursday night, the Athletics jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the Houston Astros. In the process, Jacob Wilson continued his strong play.
In the seventh inning, Wilson recorded his second hit of the day, this one being a solo home run that extended the lead to 4-1.
In doing so, he moved right next to New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge on the MLB hits leaderboard with 101.
Wilson, the 23-year-old shortstop from Thousand Oaks, California, came in hitting .359 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in one of the lone bright spots for the Athletics this season.
In 2024, Wilson played in just 28 games, batting .250 with zero home runs in just 92 at-bats, so this has been a breakout season for him.
Yet, nearly halfway through the season, he is neck-and-neck with Judge, the reigning American League MVP, in hits. That's something for Athletics fans to be excited about.
