The New York Yankees have a lot of former players on their YES Network broadcast staff.
This week, they're three lighter in that category.
The Yankees have cut loose former catcher John Flaherty, along with part-time analysts Jeff Nelson and Dave Valle, according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand.
Flaherty has been involved with YES for about two decades.
He had an option on his contract that YES declined to pick up earlier this year, according to The Athletic.
“I was kind of prepared for it so I think that helped,” Flaherty said. “It quickly went from, the reality that you are not going to be back to what a great run for 20 years to go right from retiring as a player to right into the booth in 2006 and stay with the same network for 20 years. I just became very grateful for what a long and great run it has been at YES and being connected with the Yankees all those years.”

YES Network will still have Paul O'Neill, David Cone and Joe Girardi as its analysts.
This could help synergy in the broadcast overall rather than rotating in more analysts, but it's a bummer for Flaherty, Nelson and Valle.
It'll be interesting to see if they pop up elsewhere.
Flaherty in particular has a ton of experience both as a major league player and as a broadcaster, and he could surely latch on elsewhere if he wants to.
