Yankees praised for key trade of $70 million former All-Star image

The New York Yankees were aggressive at the trade deadline, making key moves to bolster their offense and their bullpen. They enter the month of August 3 1/2 games back in the American League East.

Third base was a big need for the Bronx Bombers. DJ LeMahieu didn't pan out, and the Yankees preferred to have Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base.

One of their biggest moves was the trade to acquire Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies a week before the deadline. They finally were able to solve their third base conundrum.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report praised the Yankees for making this move.

"The deal to acquire Ryan McMahon not only gives them an upgrade at the position for the stretch run, but also an everyday third baseman in 2026 and 2027, as he plays out the final two seasons of a six-year, $70 million deal.

McMahon has struggled this season, hitting .227/.326/.408 with 16 home runs, 39 RBI and a .734 OPS. However, he was an All-Star in 2024.

A change of scenery and the opportunity to play with a contending ballclub should help McMahon. The Rockies were well out of contention and were obvious sellers.

The Yankees had a clear need at third base with two months to go in the season. They hadn't received much production from that spot.

But McMahon should be able to give them the boost they need in order to increase their offensive production. Their moves should give them a chance to inch closer in the AL East with two months to go.

We'll see how the McMahon deal pans out.
