The New York Yankees are expected to be in the mix for outfielder Kyle Tucker this offseason, and some believe he may be a strong fit.
Tucker was traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs before the 2025 season. In his one season with the Cubs, Tucker hit.266 with 22 home runs, and an OPS of.841. Tucker was also named to his fourth-consecutive All-Star appearance for his efforts.
Now, Tucker will enter the open market as perhaps the best free agent available this winter. The Athletic’s Jim Bowden has noted that the Yankees could be a fit for the superstar outfielder.
“Even in a season that saw Tucker dealing with multiple injuries, he was able to impact the game in all areas thanks to his hit tool, power, defense, arm and speed,” Bowden said. “Teams view him as a complete player who will be a threat to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases every season. Tucker’s left-handed swing would play great at Yankee Stadium and his speed would be an important added element to the Yankees lineup.”
The Yankees will also have decisions to make on outfielders Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger this offseason, which could impact how hard they push for Tucker, who should command major dollars in whatever deal he ends up signing. Nonetheless, adding Tucker to a lineup that was amongst baseball’s best in 2025 would cement the Yankees' status as contenders for the 2026 season and beyond.
