Yankees manager Aaron Boone comments on Cody Bellinger’s free agency image

Outfielder Cody Bellinger is currently a free agent after a superb season with the New York Yankees in 2025. Many members of the team hope to see Bellinger back in pinstripes in 2026.

Bellinger was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Yankees last offseason and was excellent for them. Bellinger hit.272 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs, and played elite defense as one of the Yankees’ most reliable players in the outfield.

Now a free agent, the Yankees are hopeful they can bring Bellinger back. Manager Aaron Boone was recently asked about the idea of having Bellinger back in the Bronx on a long-term deal.

“Who wouldn't want a player like that? He's earned the right now to get to this point of his career with free agency,” Boone said.

The Yankees will look to survey their options this winter as they are also expected to be in the mix for Kyle Tucker, which could impact their pursuit of Bellinger. Nonetheless, Bellinger was an important piece to the puzzle in 2025, and the Yankees will be sure to be competitive for his services on the open market.
