Yankees get ideal Cubs report about Kyle Tucker from MLB insider image

Many reports have indicated that the New York Yankees could be interested in outfielder Kyle Tucker.

Until anything happens with Tucker, it remains uncertain where the Yankees stand on that front. However, on the surface, a player of Tucker's caliber makes ideal sense for the Yankees, given where the organization stands.

Considering the Yankees are looking to win a World Series, Tucker would certainly help with that.

One thing the Yankees will have to consider is that many other teams around the league will have interest in a player of Tucker's caliber. However, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, one of those teams isn't expected to be his former squad, the Chicago Cubs.

What is being said about Kyle Tucker?

“The Cubs aren’t likely to retain Tucker,” Heyman wrote. “The top free agent should get somewhere in the $400M neighborhood, and that’s probably beyond the Cubs’ budget.

“The Cubs were surprisingly pleased with Matt Shaw’s defense, so they aren’t necessarily looking to replace him. Their main targets are likely pitchers.”

It's very questionable that the Cubs traded what they did for Tucker just to move on from him after less than a full year, but Chicago clearly is trying to save money in this situation, and might not believe that Tucker is worth what he's going to get.

For the Yankees, they can't worry too much about why a team doesn't want to sign him. They can only worry about their need in the outfield and wanting to bring in a player of his caliber.

Depending on the price, Tucker would be a great player to pursue.
