Are the New York Yankees going to pull off the Eugenio Suárez trade every fan desperately wants?
It's clear as day that the Yankees, who are getting by with a combination of Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas, could become a much better team with Suárez. Not only does the Arizona Diamondbacks slugger have 36 home runs, one off the National League lead, but he's eighth in all of baseball with a .918 OPS.
Suárez may be a rental, but he's still going to cost a hefty prospect package if the D-backs are ready to sell. And a surprising number of contenders could also use the third base upgrade this year.
Still, the Yankees are the Yankees, and the trade deadline is the time to flex their ability to go full bore in their pursuit of championships year after year.
On Thursday, ESPN's David Schoenfield predicted that the Yankees would bring Suárez to New York, as much out of desperation as anything else.
"General manager Brian Cashman has said the Yankees are 'going to go to town' at the trade deadline, suggesting they need a starting pitcher, bullpen help and an infielder," wrote Schoenfield.

"The offense has been better again in July after scuffling in June, but Aaron Judge could still use some help. There is an air of desperation as well with the Yankees, as the Toronto Blue Jays passed them in the standings, and Suarez is clearly a perfect fit for their gaping hole at third."
The Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, and even New York Mets have all been floated as potential Suárez destinations. But no team has been linked to the slugger quite as incessantly as New York.
Within a week, we'll know if all these rumors pay off in a signature acquisition.
