The New York Yankees suffered a brutal loss on Wednesday at the hands of the Houston Astros. Despite the close, 8-7 loss, much of the attention has been drawn to home plate umpire Brian Walsh, with other notable New York athletes chiming in on his performance.
Walsh missed several calls late in the game that swung in the Astros’ favor. Additionally, he ejected reliever Devin Williams, and manager Aaron Boone in the bottom of the eighth inning for arguing balls and strikes. His dismal performance has been making the rounds on social media over the last 24 hours, including New York Knicks forward Josh Hart tweeting out his thoughts on Walsh’s performance.
“That Ump needs to be suspended. He’s trash,” Hart tweeted after the game.
The fan favorite forward for the Knicks has made his Yankees’ fandom clear on social media since joining the Knicks during the 2022-23 NBA season, constantly displaying his support for the Bronx Bombers in his tweets. Additionally, Hart threw out the ceremonial first pitch before a September 2024 game at Yankee Stadium.
The loss was a big one for the Yankees, who are still vying for the AL East division crown, while also in the midst of a tight Wild Card race. The Yankees are currently 3.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for first place, and tied with the Boston Red Sox for second place in the AL East. In the Wild Card, the Yankees and Red Sox are both tied for the top spot.
