If anybody had ever guessed that Trent Grisham would be playing this type of baseball for the New York Yankees after being a throw-in during the Juan Soto trade, everybody would’ve said that was one of the best trades the Yankees ever made.

Looking back on it, there were certainly flaws in it, considering Soto left and Michael King has been an ace-caliber arm despite the injuries, but Grisham has been so good this year that it's easier to live with some of the mistakes the Yankees made in that deal.

Despite that, there are questions about whether Grisham will return in free agency this winter. Set to hit the free agency market, the left-handed-hitting outfielder has put himself in an excellent position to get paid handsomely.

Cameron Maybin speaks out on Yankees

Former New York Yankees outfielder Cameron Maybin wants that to be in New York, but bashed the team for likely not bringing him back.

"Trent Grisham is having a career year, but let me guess the Yankees will let him walk after the season," Maybin posted on X/Twitter. "Just bring him back on another one year deal, why not? Not to mention he's elite in center. Screw your defensive metrics, I watch ball."

While Maybin made a fair comment in his regard, as the Yankees should look to bring him back, and if they don't, they'd be in the wrong, but there's also another side of the story that he completely missed.

Grisham has absolutely no reason to take a short-term deal, even if it's for decent money.

This is the best opportunity he’ll have yet to get paid, so he needs to take advantage of it.

If that's not with the Yankees, that wouldn't be ideal, but it’d be tough to blame New York if he gets all the money he's looking for.
