The New York Mets had one of the best offenses in the league this year, but the neglect of their defense and pitching is what caused their downfall. Now, they need to make sure they upgrade those things this offseason if they want to compete in 2026.
Luckily for them, there may be a trade that can fix their outfield defense. While they already traded for Marcus Semien to beef up their infield, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the Mets could trade for Minnesota Twins All-Star Byron Buxton.
The trade would look like this:
New York gets: OF Byron Buxton
Minnesota gets: SS Jett Williams, 3B Jacob Reimer, LHP Jonathan Santucci
This past season, Buxton slashed.264/.327/.551/.878 with 21 doubles, 35 home runs, 83 RBI, and 24 steals in 126 games played. He also would bring a Platinum Glove to the outfield, anchoring the defense.
This trade works for both sides. The Mets get a Platinum Glove, Silver Slugger All-Star that can help their win-now push, and the Twins fully commit to their rebuild and get some top prospects with strong futures in return.
Hopefully, both sides see what a good deal this is and start getting to work on negotiations right away.
