The New York Mets are attempting to go all-in this offseason to avoid another collapse like the one they experienced this year. The Mets struggled to perform as expected and will now be remembered for one of the most historic collapses in recent MLB history.
“The New York Mets, losers of six straight, are down 6-0 and facing Jacob deGrom. Since starting 45-24 and owning the best record in MLB, the Mets are 31-47, better than only the Rockies, Twins and Nationals. This isn't a collapse. It's a disintegration,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan posted.
The Mets could end up missing the playoffs and losing Pete Alonso around the same time, as his comments about his future with New York remain unclear.
“Playing for this organization, this city - they've continued to believe in me. I love playing here. There's some great guys in this clubhouse, some great people on the staff. Every single day, it's been a pleasure coming to work and putting on the orange and blue. I've really appreciated it and have been nothing but full of gratitude every single day. Nothing is guaranteed, but we'll see what happens - I've loved being a Met. Hopefully, they've appreciated me the same,” Alonso told the media.
Additionally, the Mets are being urged to let go of reliever Ryne Stanek.
“Ryne Stanek had his ups and downs after the Mets acquired him in 2024, but he was one of their many postseason heroes, pitching well enough to convince David Stearns to bring him back. Unfortunately, the right-hander posted a 5.30 ERA in 65 games and particularly struggled in high-leverage situations. Given how poorly this season went for Stanek, it's a no-brainer to let him walk as a free agent and sign elsewhere,” FanSided’s Zachary Rotman wrote.

The Mets face a roster reconstruction this offseason, and Stanek is likely to get the short end of the stick. When acquired, he was considered one of the best relievers in the game.
This offseason will be crucial for the Mets, with this being just the first of many important business decisions to come.
