New York Mets' right-handed pitcher, Tylor Megill, currently finds himself on the IL. He was originally placed on the 15-day IL on June 17th with an elbow sprain, but was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 8th.
Megill had been pitching in Triple-A, making four rehab starts so far. However, during his last start, he felt some tightness in his elbow when throwing secondary pitches.
This has led to him being shut down while the team looks to get a diagnosis of the problem. Ahead of the Mets' Monday game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Carlos Mendoza broke the news that Megill would be undergoing testing, via NJ.com's Manny Gomez.
"(He) felt some tightness yesterday again on secondary pitches," Mendoza said. "He's back in New York getting imaging. He's shut down from throwing, and we're waiting to see what we're dealing with."
Carlos Mendoza expresses concern over Tylor Megill's setback
With the postseason just over the horizon, this is not the time to be dealing with pitching injuries. The Mets currently hold on to the last NL Wild Card spot with the San Francisco Giants right behind them.
Carlos Mendoza expressed concern over the timing of the injury. There is a strong possibility that with the injury, Megill's season could be over.
"Especially with him complaining about the same thing he went down with at the beginning of the year. I don't want to speculate, but the fact that he's getting another MRI and where we're at, like I said, it feels like we're running out of time."
