Mets have reportedly shown interest in former World Series champion image

The New York Mets finished the first half of the 2025 season just a half-game back in the National League East behind the Philadelphia Phillies. New York currently has possession of the second NL Wild Card.

Entering the second half of the year, they are 55-42. They may need a few pitching reinforcements at the trade deadline.

The relief pitcher's market will be full of intriguing arms that could be on the move at the deadline. The Mets might be wise to look for some help there.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, however, they are showing interest in right-hander David Robertson, who went unsigned last offseason.

"Several teams, including the New York Mets and New York Yankees, have at least recently looked into Robertson, league sources said. Multiple teams expect to attend one of his throwing sessions within the next week," Sammon reported.

Robertson spent last season with the Texas Rangers, going 3-4 with a 3.00 ERA in 68 appearances and recording two saves.

He has bounced around in his career, having made two separate stints with the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, but also previously pitched with the Mets, Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

Robertson was traded from the Mets to the Marlins at the 2023 trade deadline. Even at the age of 40, the veteran right-hander remains one of the top relievers in all of Major League Baseball.

Obviously, the Mets wouldn't have to give up anything if they were to sign Robertson, and they would have somebody who can set up Edwin Diaz late in games.

We'll see if they make the former All-Star an offer.
