The New York Mets lost the final game of the regular season, coming up just short and missing the playoffs. With the offseason ahead of the Mets, there are going to be plenty of changes made in the coming days, weeks, and months.
While a lot of those decisions will be more obvious ones, including potential coach firings after the brutal collapse, there could also be some surprising roster moves sprinkled into the Mets' plans this winter.
Andy Martino of SNY.tv reported on a lot of the next steps the Mets will take after their collapse. One of the things he pointed out was a wild decision the Mets could make with Francisco Lindor. A move that would be both stunning and controversial for Mets fans.
Mets could make a wild Francisco Lindor decision
Martino delved into some of the changes coming to the Mets, and in one section, discussed how the Mets will handle their veteran players. Some stars like Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz might be on their way out due to opt-outs, but the Mets might also look to shake things up with a Lindor roster move.
"And would the Mets go so far to explore a trade market for stalwarts Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo?" Martino writes. "You can rest assured that the team's leadership will reflect as deeply as possible on how to keep the Mets pointed in the right direction."
Trading Lindor would be a sunning decision for the Mets to make. He's been a core piece of the offense and the team since coming to the Mets in 2021.
This season, across 160 games, Lindor had 172 hits, 35 doubles, 31 home runs, 86 RBIs, 31 stolen bases, and an .811 OPS, the second-highest OPS of his Mets tenure.

Lindor made the All-Star team as a Met for the first time this season, and he was also one of a few players to reach 30 homers and 30 stolen bases this season.
Deciding to part ways with Lindor, even if it helps bring in a ton of prospects, would be a stunning decision to make. With Juan Soto in the first year of a massive Mets contract, there's no reason to move on from Lindor right as the Mets are beginning to be competitive.
He's signed through the 2031 season on a 10-year, $341 million deal. It wouldn't be cheap for a team picking up his contract, but players of his talent rarely become available. Many teams would likely be interested, and the Mets surely would have some takers.
Martino mentioning Lindor as a trade candidate is very noteworthy. Lindor might've played his final game in a Mets uniform, which would be a stunning turn of events after how great he's been the last few years since coming to New York.
