The New York Mets stumbled a little bit towards the end of the first half and dropped the first two games of the second half. However, they remain in the second National League Wild Card spot with the trade deadline approaching.
The Mets' biggest need is pitching. However, they could always look at making an offensive upgrade or two as well.
The Mets are only a half-game back in the NL East, so a few key moves could be a difference maker for New York.
Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN listed the Top 50 trade candidates with the deadline close. On the list was outfielder Steven Kwan, and the Mets were considered a possible fit.
"An All-Star the past two years and Gold Glove winner in all three of his previous big-league seasons, Kwan is a do-everything left fielder with elite bat-to-ball skills and two years of club control after 2025. Cleveland doesn't want to deal him, but with a dearth of available bats, the Guardians at the very least will listen to see whether teams are willing to blow them away with offers."

Kwan is hitting .285/.345/.396 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 11 stolen bases, a 2.8 WAR and a .741 OPS. The 27-year-old had a clutch game-tying hit in the All-Star Game last week.
However, he could be a huge addition for the Mets if they decide to make Cleveland an offer for him. He's a true leadoff hitter that makes contact and can generate runs with his speed.
Kwan is also an elite defender, and his contract is quite affordable for the Mets, who broke the bank for Juan Soto.
The Mets need to make moves in order to get back to the top of the NL East, and Kwan could help them overtake the Phillies if added via trade.
We'll see what the Mets decide to do.
