Sean Manaea isn't improving, and the New York Mets are faced with a decision.
On Tuesday, Manaea once again proved to be costly as he allowed four earned runs on five hits and one walk in the 9-3 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies. This was Manaea's sixth time in the last seven starts during which he allowed four or more earned runs.
With the Mets possibly heading into the postseason, the Mets need to decide whether to continue trusting Manaea to come around or pull the plug on him to make way for another starter.
Manaea receives backing from Mets manager
After the Phillies' rout, manager Carlos Mendoza was asked tough questions concerning Sean Manaea, who is signed to a three-year, $75 million contract. The Mets manager continues to place his trust in Manaea, who recorded three scoreless innings after the disastrous first two innings.
Mendonza confirmed Manaea will make his next start, and right now, there is no discussion about his place in the rotation.
Sean Manaea will make his next start, Carlos Mendoza said. The Mets are not considering a role change at this time.

Manaea is not the only starter the Mets are worried about before this postseason. Kodai Senga, who had a promising start to the season, faltered following his return from injury, leaving the Mets in a tough spot with respect to their postseason race. Unlike Manaea, the Mets did send Senga down to the minors before calling him back.
Mendoza will be asked this question again if Manaea fails in his next start against the San Diego Padres next week at home. For now, the Mets are counting that the left-hander bounces back with a quality start.
