Brewers make Jacob Misiorowski injury announcement before start vs. Nationals image

The Milwaukee Brewers are flying high, but their emotions were grounded on Sunday morning.

Jacob Misiorowski is going onto the injured list.

He was supposed to start Sunday against the Nationals. Instead, a left tibia contusion is sending him to the IL.

Logan Henderson was called up to take Misiorowski's place on the roster, although it's not yet clear who will start against the Nats. Henderson is a good candidate, with a 1.71 ERA at the MLB level this season.

It's a good sign that the injury isn't to Misiorowski's arm. He had a rough first inning in his last start, going 40 high-stress pitches against the Cubs, before settling in with three smoother innings after that.

On the season, Misiorowski has thrown 33.1 innings and has a 2.70 ERA. The incredible rookie has 47 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.

Injuries were always going to be a concern for the 6-foot-7, 197-pound flamethrower.

When you throw a slider 95 miles per hour, it puts stresses on an arm that very few have ever experienced before.

It's a bad injury stretch for Milwaukee. Jackson Chourio just went on the IL with a hamstring strain. And on Saturday, the Brewers pulled fellow outfielder Sal Frelick from their game with what they called knee soreness.

Milwaukee didn't add a ton of help at the trade deadline, so depth could be an issue in the short term.

The Brewers still are in position to make noise down the stretch. They'll just need their training staff to help these stars get back on the field in the meantime.
