The Milwaukee Brewers have dominated the National League this season, holding the league’s best record with three games remaining. With a three-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee has all but secured the No. 1 seed in the NL. They need to win one of their three remaining games to clinch the top seed, or for the Phillies to lose one of theirs.
Milwaukee's MLB-best record would also give them home-field advantage throughout the postseason, including the World Series, if they get there.
As the regular season winds down, the Brewers are preparing to welcome back hard-throwing right-hander Trevor Megill. Targeting a Sunday return, Megill hopes to appear in the regular-season finale before the postseason, recovering from a flexor strain.
Megill has been a standout for Milwaukee this year, earning his first career All-Star selection. In 49 appearances, he has posted a 2.54 ERA and 30 saves, ranking third in the National League and seventh overall. He has also kept the ball in the park, allowing only three home runs all season for a 0.6 HR/9 rate.
In his absence, Abner Uribe has steadied the bullpen with six saves and a 1.90 ERA. But with October baseball approaching, the Brewers are eager to have their closer back in the mix.
Pitching has been a cornerstone of Milwaukee’s success, with the staff ranking second in the majors in team ERA (3.61) and ninth in bullpen ERA (3.69).
The Brewers hope those numbers hold steady as they chase their first World Series appearance since 1982.
