- Acquiring Skenes would give the Dodgers a premier pitching rotation in MLB.
- The Pirates are unlikely to trade Skenes but could be swayed by a substantial offer.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have just secured consecutive World Series championships and are now aiming for a third straight title. To achieve this, they must ensure their roster is absolutely dominant.
Luckily for them, there’s a trade that can do just that. While they already have broken baseball, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the Dodgers could do it once again by trading for Pittsburgh Pirates Cy Young winner Paul Skenes.
The trade would look like this:
Dodgers get: RHP Paul Skenes
Pirates get: RHP Emmet Sheehan, OF Andy Pages, C Dalton Rushing, OF Josue De Paula, IF Alex Freeland
During the most recent season, Skenes achieved a 10-10 win-loss record, a 1.97 ERA, recorded 216 strikeouts, and maintained a WHIP of 0.948 across 187 innings thrown. Furthermore, he secured his inaugural Cy Young Award unanimously, following his Rookie of the Year win the previous season, and received his second All-Star selection.
Acquiring Skenes alongside Yoshinobu Yamamoto would equip the Dodgers with the premier two pitchers in the National League. When you factor in Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow, the Dodgers would possess the top rotation in MLB for at least the next five years, unequivocally.
It's highly improbable the Pirates would trade Skenes, and they'd likely prefer to retain him until his current agreement concludes. Nevertheless, a substantial offer for Skenes could prove alluring, so L.A. Should initiate discussions to gauge the possibility.
