The Los Angeles Dodgers have no shortage of star players, but they could end up adding one more star pitcher, given the injuries to their rotation.

Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell and Rōki Sasaki are all on the injured list and Shohei Ohtani is still only pitching one-inning outings as part of his build-up. The Dodgers are hanging on to a 3 1/2 game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. Snell and Glasnow are working their way back, but Sasaki's timeline is less clear. If the rotation does not get healthy fast, the Dodgers could get aggressive at the trade deadline.

FanSided's Zach Pressnell suggested the Dodgers could be a trade suitor for Sandy Alcántara. Alcántara has a 6.69 ERA, but he has looked more like the two-time All-Star he is in his last four outings.

"It's clear they need to make a trade, but most of the media are quick to link Los Angeles to rental option like Erick Fedde. Trading for Alcántara makes a bit more sense even though he comes with the obvious risk of returning from Tommy John surgery," wrote Pressnell. "Alcántara's team friendly contract fits with Los Angeles' massive payroll in the perfect way. The Dodgers' farm system also has the talent it would take to swing a trade. Former top prospects James Outman and the aforementioned (Bobby) Miller could be used as the headliners in a deal with Miami."

Alcántara signed a five-year, $56 million deal before the 2022 season. He ended up winning the National League Cy Young Award in 2022. However, he struggled in 2023 and missed all of last season. This year, his overall numbers are not great, but his potential is undeniable.

He has a 2.47 ERA since the start of June. In three of his four outings, he has reached the sixth inning. He has one quality start and has not allowed more than three runs in that span. Alcántara has the potential to become an ace again, and adding him to a healthy Dodgers rotation would be a nightmare for the rest of the NL.
