The Los Angeles Dodgers are riding high.
They are in first place in the National League West and finally got to see Shohei Ohtani pitch for the first time in a game wearing a Dodgers uniform.
Ohtani got the start on June 16 against the San Diego Padres and went one inning, giving up one run on two hits while throwing 28 pitches.
Now, the Dodgers are set to roll out Ohtani again, as the team's X account on Wednesday night. Dave Roberts also revealed it in his postgame press conference after defeating the Padres once again.
The second start will come on Sunday against the Washington Nationals. Here is how the three-game series lines up against Washington:
- Friday: Clayton Kershaw
- Saturday: Dustin May
- Sunday: Shohei Ohtani
The Dodgers used Ohtani as an opener on Monday and then also used Jack Dreyer as an opener on Tuesday, although they managed to win both games while relying heavily on their bullpen.
Ohtani did not pitch during the 2024 season, but the expectation all along was that he would pitch this year, although the timeline remained unclear for quite a while.
Plus, with all of the Dodgers' injuries to the pitching staff (Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki included), seeing Ohtani take the mound is a breath of fresh air, and it will be interesting to see how long he can go on Sunday.
