Can Royals highly touted top prospect propel team to a postseason berth? image

The Kansas City Royals finally promoted the team’s top prospect on Sunday.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Jac Caglianone has been called up by Kansas City. He will join the team in St. Louis.

The Royals are currently 31-29, eight games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central.

While it may seem unlikely for the Royals to win the AL Central this season, the team is only one game back from the third AL wild card spot.

Caglianone terrorized minor league pitching, hitting 15 home runs with 56 RBI while slashing .322/.389/.593 in 50 games.

Caglianone will provide the Royals with a powerful lefty bat in the middle of the lineup to pair with Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, Salvador Perez and Maikel Garcia.

The 2024 sixth overall pick out of Florida has always been a dangerous hitter but isn’t known for his defensive prowess.

Caglianone is a natural first baseman, but Kansas City has been working with the slugger at the corner outfield positions. He has a very strong arm and could be a massive upgrade for the club in right field.

If Caglianone rakes against big league pitching, he may boost the Royals to a second consecutive postseason berth for the first time since the team made it to the World Series in 2014 and 2015.
