The Houston Astros are in the middle of a terrible stretch with only one win in their last six games. As the MLB trade deadline nears Thursday, Houston could be one of the teams to watch to see if it can pull a trade that sparks it back to life.

Despite this tough run for the Astros, they have a four-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West, but if this stretch continues, that lead can dwindle. So, what move could Houston make these last few hours before the deadline?

On Wednesday, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi spoke about the possibility of the Astros reuniting with former shortstop Carlos Correa.

“With respect to Correa, I just think that with Carlos, the production hasn’t quite been there this year for him,” Morosi said. “His OPS plus for the year is under 100. He’s been better of late, but the contract is significant. The Twins, I believe, would have to include some cash to facilitate it... [The Astros are] considering it, but I think we’re a long way away from saying that it’s likely or going to happen.”

Jeremy Peña has been out of the Astros’ lineup after he fractured a rib on June 27, but is already nearing a return. Peña played his first Minor League rehab start Tuesday night in Triple-A Sugar Land’s 8-5 loss to Tacoma. Unless Correa or Peña switches to third base, it’s a trade that wouldn’t make sense and would be costly in terms of the financial commitment.

Moreover, Morosi mentions the down 2025 season that Correa is having. Hence, the numbers he’s putting up this season aren’t worth the price that the Minnesota Twins or any other team will have to pay, which is why the MLB insider says Eugenio Suárez is the ideal fit for the Astros, considering the need at third base after the injury to Isaac Paredes.

“I think the Suárez name of the three makes the most sense because, even with the injury scare this week for Eugenio, he is probably going to get traded,” Morosi added. “He fits that team very well. Paredes is out for a significant amount of time. They’ve been dealing with injuries with [Jeremy] Peña, [Yordan] Álvarez, too. The need for the Astros at third base is clear.”
