The Houston Astros and New York Yankees were involved in one of the more polarizing series this season. From a game-one blowout win for the Yankees to the poor umpiring in game two of the series, it was a wild series through just the first two games.

But the wildness didn't stop after the first two games, as the third game of the series also featured some incredible theatrics. While the umpiring continued to be frustrating for both teams, there was a much more prominent issue in the game.

In the ninth inning, Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell hit a double, and afterwards, Yankees manager Aaron Boone called on the umpires to inspect Trammell's bat. After the game, Trammell called out Boone for the bat inspection saga, calling it "ridiculous."

Trammell Calls Bat Inspection 'Ridiculous'

Brian McTaggart of MLB.com shared Trammell's reaction to having his bat inspected. There, Trammell called out Boone for making the umpires look over his bat, and revealed more insight into the bat he was using for his ninth-inning double.

"It's actually ridiculous. I have no idea what really happened." Trammell said. "I just got word they thought my bat was shaved down too much. To be honest, I have no idea how you shave down a bat. I don't know what it is."

The Astros outfielder further went into detail about how he felt about having his bat inspected.

"I feel kind of defensive right now, moreso a test of my character of like I'm going to willingly do that," Trammell said. "Just kind of lost on that thing, and if anybody knows me know I'm never going to cheat any turns or anything like that. I have no idea. That's baffling to me that it was even checked. They didn't like it. Sorry. I used it the first at-bat, and it wasn't a problem. I struck out, and it wasn't a problem then."

Trammell got defensive and also called out the Yankees and Boone for questioning his integrity. He has used that bat previously in the game and throughout the year with the Astros. There has not been a problem until the game against the Yankees.

New York also didn't bring the bat into question until he had hit a double late in the game, which further irritated Trammell. Amid a series with plenty of controversy, thanks to umpiring, this moment wasn't spurred by the umpires, but rather by Boone.

The series finale saw the Astros fall to the Yankees 8-4. Trammell's ninth-inning double didn't impact the game much, as the game was out of hand at that point. Boone's action wasn't necessary, and after not bringing it to attention until the final inning, Trammell took offense to having his bat inspected.

During the Astros-Yankees series in Houston to kick off September, there was no shortage of drama. Right before the series wrapped up, Boone called for the umpires to inspect Trammell's bat, leading to his bat being confiscated, irritating Trammell, leading to his call-out of Boone after the game.
