The Astros just made an intriguing minor league ownership decision image

In a press release, the Houston Astros announced that they’ve sold their Triple-A, Double-A, and Single-A clubs to Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH), which is “an organization that owns and operates select Minor League Baseball clubs affiliated with Major League Baseball.”

The clubs in descending order of level are the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, Corpus Christi Hooks, and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The deal has not been finalized, but the Astros are expecting the deal to be finished “in the coming weeks.”

Astros keep sporting control over their clubs

This sale still keeps the three minor league teams in the Astros minor league system; DBH will be in the business of enhancing the game day experience as well as off-the-field matters. The clubs will also retain their “existing local leadership.”

DBH operates more than 40 Minor League Baseball teams despite only being established in 2021. DBH also has a history of moving relocating several teams to new locations, but the Astros stated that their three clubs “will remain firmly rooted in their communities.”

While this move isn’t one that many spectators expected from the Astros during such a chaotic period, it is certainly a big one for the team as they look to provide a better experience for fans and expand their brand footprint in the cities that these teams operate.
