After a slow start to the season, the Houston Astros are starting to gain momentum as the MLB All-Star break fast approaches. The Astros are 47-33 and are in first place in the AL West.
More good news could be on the way for the Astros, as Houston outfielder Chas McCormick could soon return from injury.
McCormick participated in batting practice at Daikin Park before the Astros' game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. The Astros outfielder has also been participating in a throwing program as he continues to go through rehab for the left oblique strain that has kept him out of the Astros' lineup for the last month.
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters that McCormick could head to West Palm Beach by Friday to practice at-bats against pitchers. If all goes well, McCormick could play in Triple-A rehab games in preparation for his return to the Astros' lineup.
There is currently no timetable for McCormick’s return, but his recent rehab shows encouraging signs about his return.
McCormick has been placed on the IL by the Astros since May 31. Before his injury, McCormick played in 36 games this season for the Astros, recording a slashline of .256/.347/.302 and two RBIs.
In his five seasons with the Astros, McCormick has recorded 333 hits, 193 RBIs, 191 runs, and 55 home runs. He has a career batting average of .250.
