We only have a few series left of the regular season before fans can get excited about postseason baseball. So far, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers are the only teams to clinch their postseason berth, but some teams are not far behind.
The Detroit Tigers are one of these teams. They currently sit atop the American League Central with their 85-65 record, holding a 6.5-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians.
Detroit is looking to clinch the division and its postseason berth as soon as possible. That means each of these last handful of games matters. Every win will put them closer to one of their season goals.
Fortunately, Detroit will get the opportunity to further distance itself from Cleveland during a three-game series starting on Tuesday and another three-game series against them starting September 23. But first, they made some roster moves.
Tigers recall lefty reliever to help bolster bullpen, option Brenan Hanifee
Ahead of their series with the Guardians, the Tigers made some roster moves to help strengthen their bullpen. According to Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold, they recalled left-handed reliever Brant Hurter from Triple-A while optioning reliever Brenan Hanifee to Triple-A.
Hurter is now back with the big-league club after spending some time in Triple-A working on his command. He was originally planned to be called up at the start of September, but suffered a back injury that sidelined him for nearly a week.
According to Petzold, Hurter can be expected to pitch anywhere between one and three innings during an outing. He will be someone the Tigers go to when they need someone to give them some innings in tight spots.
