The St. Louis Cardinals have no more home games in the 2025 season and are eliminated from postseason contention. This means they are looking towards the offseason, where there are huge storylines surrounding the organization.

For the Detroit Tigers they are still battling in the final week of the regular season to secure the AL Central and hold onto a playoff spot.

However, this doesn't mean Detroit's front office isn't thinking about big moves they can make following the season.

Tigers named candidate for Nolan Arenado

In a recent piece by Sports Illustrated's Patrick McAvoy, the Detroit Tigers are named as an early contender for the Cardinals' Nolan Arenado.

"Detroit wasn't on that initial list, but is 85-71 this season and third base has been a position of need for them. That's why the Tigers pursued Alex Bregman and there's buzz about that fit again as well. If the Tigers are actually looking for a third baseman, Arenado is the type of veteran to bring into the mix to take a contender to an even higher level."

The real question about this potential deal is would the Tigers would want to take on Arenado? They'd likely have to give up some prospect capital for an aging third baseman who just posted career lows in AVG, HRs, and RBIs.

As much as Arenado is an attractive target, the Cardinals are showing a willingness to move on from him, which means they no longer see any production in him, and Comerica Park is already a tough park for right-handed hitters to hit in as it.

The rumor mill is already swirling around many players in the Cardinals organization, and Arenado did voice a little bit of frustration this weekend regarding the direction St. Louis is going in.
