Tigers make announcement on star reliever who appeared to injure himself in bullpen image

The Detroit Tigers made one of the more underrated trade deadline pickups at the end of July, acquiring Washington Nationals reliever Kyle Finnegan for a reasonable haul.

Since coming to Detroit, he's been incredible and has helped the team create a one-two punch with Will Vest in the back end of the bullpen. But, amid the series against the New York Mets, an unfortunate situation unfolded.

Finnegan appeared to get injured during a warm-up to come into the game in the bullpen, and as Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic shared, the Tigers announced the injury to Finnegan shortly after he stopped his warm-up.

Tigers Announce Finnegan's Injury

The Tigers announced that, amid his warmups, Finnegan felt right groin tightness and was shut down from coming into the game afterwards.

While the extent of his injury is unknown, the part of his body is a huge deal. Injuries are never good, but for a pitcher like Finnegan, the fact that this issue isn't with his throwing arm is somewhat of a sigh of relief.

A pitcher dealing with an injury to their throwing arm would be a tough blow, especially heading into the final month of the season. This issue, right groin tightness, isn't anything to sneeze at, but it's significantly better than if it had been a problem with his right arm.

The 33-year-old right-hander has been amazing for the Tigers since the trade deadline. In all 12 appearances he's made for Detroit, he's not allowed a single earned run. He's allowed just three hits, while racking up 19 strikeouts.

MOREOne Jack Flaherty statistic that should concern Tigers fans

He's been a key piece of the Tigers' bullpen since the trade deadline, and if he were to miss time, it'd be a huge blow for Detroit. While he could still miss some time, the initial diagnosis isn't as terrifying as it could've been.

Detroit and Finnegan will have to wait until after the game to determine the extent of the issue is, and what the recovery looks like. It might just be a few days off, which would be the best-case scenario for Finnegan and Detroit.

But for now, there's not much known about the issue other than it being right groin tightness. Finnegan is a huge piece of the Tigers' bullpen, so his diagnosis postgame will be of utmost importance for the Tigers.
