All eyes are on the American League Central race in Major League Baseball, as the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians are neck and neck in the division standings.
However, Detroit is still having a great season, and many other organizations wish they were in the same boat as them. And on the other hand, the Tigers' front office and player development deserve a lot of credit for the job they've done drafting and developing players in their system.
Tigers' trio makes franchise history
Per USAToday's Bob Nightengale, this is the first year in the Tigers' franchise history, or at least since the inaugural 1965 draft, that Detroit has had three players they've drafted hit 25 or more home runs in a season.
Those three players are Riley Greene. Kerry Carpenter and Spencer Torkelson. Greene leads the bunch with 34, and Torkelson has 31. Carpenter has also added 26 this season.
However, the Tigers end this season, which fans really hope isn't on the outside looking in, the future is bright in Detroit, and they have a strong core of sluggers that are entering the primes of their careers.
Greene has become a true three-outcome hitter. He's either going to homer, double, or strike out. His 193 strikeouts lead the American League, but he has an OPS+ of 120.
Torkelson was the first overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft, struggled a little bit to start his career, but is having a career year to this point.
Detroit will lean heavily on these three sluggers if they want any chance of making noise in the playoffs.
