The New York Mets and Detroit Tigers went back and forth in a slugfest on Monday night, with the Mets holding on for a 10-8 win. New York's star of the night was outfielder Juan Soto, who went 2-for-3 with a home run, triple and two walks.

The Mets signed Soto to a 15-year, $765 million contract this offseason, and there's been doubt around the young superstar at times throughout the first year of his massive contract.

However, on Monday night, Soto showed why the Mets spent big on him. Soto made history with his go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning and go-ahead triple in the sixth inning.

Juan Soto Makes MLB History With Stellar Night

Soto came to the plate in the fourth inning with two outs and the bases loaded and his team down 5-2. The 26-year-old hit a grand slam to put the Mets up 6-5.

However, the Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and another run in the fifth inning to tie the game at five. Then Soto came to the plate in the sixth inning with runners on first and second with one out.

The Mets' superstar delivered again, this time with a two-RBI triple to give the Mets a 7-5 lead. Soto became the first player in the modern era to hit a go-ahead grand slam and go-ahead multi-run triple in the same game, according to OptaSTATS.

Soto's history on Monday night was just the latest of what's been an incredible career so far. The young super star is a four-time All-Star, World Series champion, five-time Silver Slugger, HR Derby champion and has a batting title.

Soto's numbers haven't been quite what they were the last two years when he was an All-Star and top six MVP candidate. However, the Mets slugger is still hitting .257 with a .915 OPS, 36 home runs and 90 RBI. Soto also leads the MLB with 113 walks drawn.

The Mets and their star outfielder are back in action on Tuesday afternoon for the second game of their series against the Tigers.
