Cleveland Guardians slugger Gabriel Arias is having his best season in the majors this year. Across 113 games, he is hitting .223/.280/.363 with a career-high 20 doubles, 10 home runs, and a career-high 48 runs batted in.
He was the club's Opening Day second baseman, but has since been filling in at shortstop with Brayan Rocchio being optioned to Triple-A in July. Outside of second base and shortstop, Arias has also logged eight games at third base this season.
However, he unfortunately hurt his wrist on August 29th in Cleveland's game against the Seattle Mariners. He was hit by a pitch in the second inning and was forced to leave the game. He did return to the lineup the following Wednesday in a game against the Boston Red Sox, but reaggravated the injury.
Gabriel Arias avoids IL stint
According to MLB.com's Tim Stebbins, Gabriel Arias avoided a trip to the IL and will push through the pain. He got the okay to give it a go following a consultation with the club's medical staff and a hand specialist.
"While the Guardians continue to push for a spot in the postseason, it has been determined that Arias can play through the issue, which followed consultation between Arias, the Guardians' medical staff, and hand specialist Dr. Thomas Grisham."
Cleveland skipper Stephen Vogt could not be happier with the news. He spoke on his excitement to continue to keep Arias in the lineup down the stretch.
"It's going to be up to Gabby, which is great. We want to have Gabby in the lineup as often as possible."
