The Cleveland Guardians are closing in.

But is there enough time to catch up?

That's what the AL Central race will have to wait and see. But the Guardians sure are doing everything they can to have a chance.

Cleveland beat the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, 4-0. The victory pulls the Guardians within 4.5 games of the Tigers with 11 games to play, including four more against Detroit.

The Guardians have won 11 of their last 12 games.

In those wins, they have allowed zero runs three times, one run three times, two runs three times and had a game allowing four and a game allowing five.

The pitching, from the top of the roster to the bottom, has been exquisite.

It has allowed the Guardians to climb out of an eight-games-below .500 moment in July, right at the end of a 10-game losing streak. Cleveland is now nine games above .500 at 80-71.

They're even closer in the Wild Card. Boston entered Wednesday night with a 2.5-game lead on the final AL Wild Card spot and went to extra innings with the Athletics at about the time Cleveland finished off its win.

There are spots to be taken by a team that's hot. And the Guardians are red hot.

Now it's just a matter of finishing the race strong.
