The popular Cincinnati Reds trade rumor this offseason has involved sending out Hunter Greene, even though everyone in Cincy is saying they have no interest in dealing the hard-throwing righty.
There's a different pitcher that's more logical to trade away, if the Reds go that route.
That's Brady Singer, with just one year left on his contract.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel explained Springer's trade case in a new article on Tuesday:
"If the Reds were to trade a starter, Singer would make much more sense than Greene or (Andrew) Abbott. He's a free agent after this season, and taking a trade the Reds already won (for Jonathan India last winter) and parlaying it into even more is an ideal scenario."

Singer isn't as exciting as Greene, but that's not the point. He'd be getting sent out at a time when value could still be recouped for him.
"Singer has one year of control remaining at roughly $12 million, pending arbitration," Passan and McDaniel write. "Singer has thrown between 150 and 180 innings each of the past four seasons but with below-average fastball velocity (92.2 mph, a sinker), so he can be classified as an innings eater. His slider (and sweeper) are his best pitches, delivered from a low release due to his low arm slot and big extension."

Despite the case they make, the ESPN insider duo only lists Singer as having a 25% chance to get traded this offseason.
The listed potential landing spots are the Orioles, Rangers, Giants, Astros, Padres and Rays. So it sure seems like there would be suitors if the Reds decide to go down this path and make Singer available.
