The Cincinnati Reds control their own destiny.
A weekend sweep of the Chicago Cubs, coupled with some continued bumps in the road for the New York Mets, have the Reds in the third and final NL Wild Card spot thanks to a tiebreaker over the Mets.
It's not the last week of the MLB regular season, and all the Reds have to do is hold on.
Do the Reds play today?
No, the Cincinnati Reds do not play on Monday, Sept. 22.
There are only three MLB games today, and Cincy isn't involved. Major League Baseball appears to have kept most of the schedule open this day for potential makeup games and to allow teams to prep for the final week of the season.
When is the Reds' next game?
The Cincinnati Reds' next game is Tuesday, Sept. 23.
They'll take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in Cincinnati at 6:40 p.m. ET.
Reds' remaining schedule
The Reds have six games still to play, all against divisional foes. Cincinnati can't win the division, so there'll be plenty of familiarity but only the Wild Card spot at stake in the standings.
The six games, with all start times listed Eastern Time:
- Sept. 23: Pirates, 6:40 p.m.
- Sept. 24: Pirates, 6:40 p.m.
- Sept. 25: Pirates, 12:40 p.m.
- Sept. 26: at Brewers 8:10 p.m.
- Sept. 27: at Brewers, 7:15 p.m.
- Sept. 28: at Brewers, 3:10 p.m.
Are the Reds in the playoffs?
As of Monday, Sept. 22, the Reds hold the final NL Wild Card spot with six games to play.
If Cincinnati wins out, the Reds will be in the playoffs no matter what else happens.
But if the Mets have a better record in the final week than the Reds, then it'll be New York into the postseason instead of Cincinnati.
