Cincinnati Reds predicted to go after Yankees' bust reliever in free agency image

The Cincinnati Reds are one of the three teams vying for a National League wild card during the final week of the regular season. Under manager Terry Francona, Cincinnati may be a playoff contender for years to come, but the organization may have to help the team out in free agency and make key signings.

One of the Reds' biggest needs is bullpen help, and that's what they are likely to seek this offseason. Cincinnati has a strong rotation and core position players that can be built around.

Reds should inquire about the Yankees' Devin Williams

The New York Yankees are likely to let reliever Devin Williams hit the open market after a bust of a season, but one man's trash could be another man's treasure.

Cincinnati may not be heavy spender, but a few savvy moves like buying on Devin Williams when the stock is low might be a good option. And Williams spent several seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, so he is familiar with many NL Central hitters.

Williams is likely headed to another organization, as New York likely doesn't want to financially commit to him after a bad season. He has a 5.03 ERA in 59 innings, but 88 strikeouts and 18 saves. As inconsistent as Williams has been, the Reds could be the team to take a chance on him and his fortunes start to turn around.

It will be a storyline to follow throughout the Winter, and the Reds' front office will have a lot of decisions to make that could pay dividends in 2026.
