The Chicago Cubs are off to a hot start. They lead the National League Central with a 22-16 record after they missed the postseason in 2023 and 2024.

The Cubs have not been to the playoffs since the COVID-shortened 2020 season, but could be in line to make it this year.

Elsewhere in Major League Baseball, a former member of the Cubs is not having so much luck. Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was previously on the Cubs coaching staff.

Hyde's Orioles are 13-23, which is good for the second worst record in the American League.

Dayn Perry of CBS Sports predicts that he could be on the hot seat at the end of 2025.

"It seems strange to think of Hyde, who's guided the O's to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons emerging from their deep teardown, as being in peril, but Baltimore has been quite a disappointment in 2025. Yes, that has more do with the front office's lack of activity than anything else, but managers make tidy fall guys," Perry wrote.

"The reality is that the Orioles right now are in last place and have the American League's worst run differential, and if those struggles persist then Hyde could pay the price."

Perry is correct in pointing out that managers are often made out to be scapegoats when their teams are struggling. Such could be the case with Hyde.

He was on the Cubs coaching staff when they won their first World Series since 1908 back in 2016, and he has also guided the Orioles to two straight postseason appearances.

But the Orioles are showing no signs of coming out of their slump, so Hyde's days in Baltimore may be numbered. We'll see what they decide to do with the former Cubs coach.
