The Chicago Cubs will surely be active at the trade deadline for numerous reasons.

One reason is to strengthen a relatively weak bench unit that hasn’t done much but pinch run.

According to Newsweek, the Cubs could be interested in a reunion with an outfielder who is putting up solid numbers for the South Side.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Mike Tauchman would be a perfect fit for the Cubs off the bench.

Tauchman, 34, signed with the White Sox after playing two seasons with the Cubs and has performed well.

Tauchman has three home runs and 10 RBI while slashing .288/.415/.530 in 19 games.

“The Palatine Pounder” was a fan favorite with the Cubs for several reasons, mainly because of his game-saving catches and walk-off hits.

Tauchman excels at getting on base. He has a career .348 on-base percentage, which would help the Cubs in late-inning situations.

In his 2023 and 2024 campaigns with the Cubs, Tauchman hit 15 home runs, 30 doubles and had 77 RBI in 217 games. He slashed .250/.360/.372 and made it difficult for his managers to take him out of the lineup.

The White Sox would probably give him up for cheap, so a couple of low-level prospects should get the job done if the Cubs are interested.

“The Summer of Mike Tauchman” for the third summer in a row could help the Cubs win the National League Central for the first time in five years.
