The Chicago Cubs are off to a hot start in 2025. They were picked by most to win the National League Central, and they have a three-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals.

They could use a little bit of help at third base, as former top prospect Matt Shaw has not panned out just yet.

There will be plenty of options available at the trade deadline, and some have even linked Nolan Arenado to the North Siders.

Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies is another option, but Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report believes that is unlikely.

"If the Rockies are willing to trade McMahon this summer, it's unclear how motivated teams with a need at third base will be. The former All-Star is hitting .211 with a .706 OPS," Kelly wrote.

The North Siders do need help at third base, but McMahon's struggles make him a less-than-ideal target.

He hit 20 home runs last year with the Rockies and posted a .722 OPS, even earning his first All-Star nod. But 2025 has been a far cry from where he was in 2024.

The Rockies also may not be able to generate much of a return for the 30-year-old third baseman, as Kelly points out. This could make it very hard for the Rockies to trade him.

As for the Cubs, they are probably best served looking at other options, and perhaps even considering Arenado would be the better course of action.

We'll see where the Cubs land in their search for a third baseman.
