After some questioned if Anthony Rizzo would ever play again in Major League Baseball, it sounds like the Chicago Cubs legend is hanging them up.

According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Rizzo will be retiring as a Cub and will be honored this Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Wrigley Field.

"News: Anthony Rizzo is retiring as a Cub and will be honored this Saturday at Wrigley Field. He'll also become an ambassador for the organization. The defacto captain of the 2016 World Series team has returned," he wrote.

Rizzo Had a Storied Career With the Chicago Cubs

During his time with the organization, Rizzo was one of the all-time greats in Cubs history. Capped off by the 2016 World Series title, Chicago accomplished something that it had always dreamed of, with Rizzo playing a massive part in that.

In some sense,  it's unfortunate to see Rizzo retire at this age. At 36 years old, Rizzo should've had another year or two if everything had gone as planned.

Unfortunately, he suffered a concussion during the 2023 campaign with the New York Yankees and was never the same player after.

It was reported during the 2024-2025 offseason that Rizzo was wanted around the league. However, reports also indicated that teams wanted him on a minimum deal. Rizzo had stated that he didn't want to take a cheap deal due to not wanting to hurt other veterans in the future.

Making his debut in 2011 as a member of the San Diego Padres, Rizzo played in 14 seasons and slashed .261/.361/.467. He blasted 303 home runs, drove in 965 RBIs and finished his career with 1,644 hits.

A three-time All-Star, World Series champion, four-time Gold Glove winner, and plenty more, Rizzo had a career to remember.

A Chicago legend forever.
