What to know about Red Sox trading Vaughn Grissom to Angels image

Not every move that takes place at the Winter Meetings can be a blockbuster.

Instead, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim completed a simpler trade on Tuesday afternoon.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the deal, with the initial indication being that Vaughn Grissom was being sent from the Red Sox to the Angels. It appears the move was made in part to clear a 40-man roster spot.

It took a little while for the rest of the details to emerge.

Who are the Red Sox getting for Vaughn Grissom?

The Red Sox are getting a minor league player in return for Grissom, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

The player: Isaiah Jackson.

He's a 21-year old outfielder who was just an eighth-round pick in the 2025 draft. He was sent to High-A after the draft, where he had a.668 OPS in limited action.

Jackson won't take up a spot on the 40-man roster, which gives the Red Sox a bit more flexibility this offseason with Grissom's spot coming open.

Is Vaughn Grissom related to Marquis Grissom?

Simple answer here: No.

The two-time All-Star Marquis has a son in the minor leagues, but it's not Vaughn.

Is Vaughn Grissom good?

Vaughn Grissom was never a top-100 prospect, but he ranked solidly on the Atlanta Braves' team prospect lists before being sent to Boston as part of the Chris Sale trade.

He has now gotten 321 at bats in the major leagues and hit.255 with five home runs.

Grissom can play both middle infield spots, and he's still only 24, so there's a chance of him turning into a solid player for the Angels.
