The Boston Red Sox have some clear goals this offseason, with one of them being re-signing Alex Bregman. And now, it seems there is a potential number they can consider giving the superstar.
The Athletic’s Tim Britton projects that Bregman will receive a contract of around six years, $171 million. This is using comparisons of contracts from Matt Chapman, Rafael Devers, and Kris Bryant.

“As it stands, Bregman should land at least Chapman’s deal. That his WAR this past season was lower owes to a quad injury; he otherwise played to a five-win pace, and he’s not so injury-prone as to worry too much about his durability. Devers’ present-day AAV of almost $32 million is the ceiling here; Bregman didn’t quite reach that number on his pillow deal with the Red Sox. (With deferrals, the AAV for that three-year deal was $31.6 million.) Let’s split the difference between the AAVs of Chapman and Devers, landing at $28.5 million per season,” Britton wrote.
This season, Bregman finished slashing.273/.360/.462/.821 with 28 doubles, 18 home runs, and 62 RBI over 114 games played. He also provided leadership for a super young roster, and other intangibles the Sox can’t get anywhere else.
This is a number the Sox can very well do, but on the other side of the coin, it’s a number many other teams can do as well. However, the Sox still have the fact that Bregman and his family love the city of Boston going for them.
Hopefully, the Sox gather the money as soon as possible and make an offer, so they can pull Bregman off the market without competitors jacking up the price.
