The Boston Red Sox are struggling as of late. They have lost five games in a row and are 40-42 on the season.
They are losing ground in the American League East and sit seven games out of first place, but are only two games back in the Wild Card race.
If they continue to slide in the standings, they could trade away a few pieces, though Craig Breslow has stated that he hopes to add to the club rather than sell.
Nick Selbe of Sports Illustrated listed Walker Buehler as a trade candidate but predicted that the Red Sox will hold onto him.
"Buehler’s numbers to date look like a massive disappointment until you realize they’re more or less in keeping with what he did in his final year with the Dodgers. His postseason heroics might have made the Red Sox brush aside his regular season struggles, and perhaps they’ll buoy his trade value for a contending team looking for someone who’s proven capable of getting outs in October, either as a starter or in relief," Selbe writes.

Buehler is struggling this season. The two-time World Series champion and two-time All-Star is 5-5 with a 6.29 ERA in 13 starts with the Red Sox.
He was signed to a one-year, $21.05 million contract prior to the 2025 season. His regular season numbers in 2024 weren't good either.
However, Buehler was able to salvage 2024 with a lights-out postseason. He won Game 3 of the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers and even closed out the New York Yankees in Game 5 to clinch the series.
The 30-year-old right-hander has a mutual option for 2026, so he could be back in a Boston uniform next season. But his struggles may have hurt his trade value a bit.
As such, he may ultimately stay in Boston for the rest of the season, even if the Red Sox decide to sell at the trade deadline.
We'll see what the future holds for the former World Series hero.
