The Boston Red Sox’ pitching staff has been holding their own recently, but they did have a few injuries earlier this year. Now, news has been released regarding the back end of their rotation, Hunter Dobbins, and two star relievers, Justin Slaten and Luis Guerrero.
Dobbins tore his ACL on a play covering first base against the Tampa Bay Rays on July 11th. According to manager Alex Cora, he just had surgery to fix it. “‘Everything went well,’ manager Alex Cora said before Boston’s game Tuesday against the Astros at Daikin Park. ‘So now just go ahead and kill the rehab and be back as soon as possible’’ (via Masslive).
As for Slaten, he just threw his third bullpen last Tuesday, and has another one set up to pretend like he’s throwing through multiple innings. Slaten was put on the IL for right shoulder inflammation, which actually turned out to be a bone pressing and pinching his nerves and veins. For Slaten, this is a good news, as he could return soon and become a much needed upgrade in the bullpen
Finally, Guerrero threw a 25-pitch live batting practice in Fort Myers, after being put on the IL for a right elbow strain. Guerrero has been a decent middle reliever, posting a 4.15 ERA in 13 games this season. While his ERA seems high, that strain could have been the problem, and he could work out any other kinks during rehab.
Overall, all three Sox seem like they are heading towards full recovery, with two possibly being ready to contribute to a playoff push this season. Hopefully they do, as the Red Sox could use all the help they can get.
