The Boston Red Sox are struggling a little bit since trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. They are 42-44 and currently sitting in fourth place in the American League East.
However, they are just three games back in the Wild Card race, so their hopes of making it to the postseason are still very much alive. But if they continue to slide, they could be sellers at the trade deadline.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com notes that if Boston sells, third baseman Alex Bregman could be on the move. He signed a three-year, $120 million contract with opt-out clauses.
However, Feinsand noted another possibility which he noted was more likely.
"Bregman can opt out of the final two years of his contract and test the open market for a second straight year. The more likely scenario, sources say, is that Boston would try to restructure Bregman’s contract into a longer deal," Feinsand wrote.

Bregman is currently on the injured list, but is hitting .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, a 2.9 WAR and a .938 OPS.
It would appear that as of now, Boston doesn't have any plans of trading him. Craig Breslow has even stated that he hopes to add to the ballclub rather than subtract from it.
Keeping Bregman long term would be a smart play. Now that Devers is gone, Bregman is manning third base for the Red Sox full-time.
The 31-year-old is a two-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, a former Gold Glove winner and even a former Silver Slugger.
He can opt out after this year. If he opts in, he also can opt out after 2026. It will certainly be interesting to see how things play out.
